THE INSTITUTE OF INTERNATIONAL LEGAL STUDIES HOSTS THE 2024 SOUTHEAST ASIAN REGIONAL ROUNDS OF THE STETSON INTERNATIONAL MOOT COURT COMPETITION

The Institute of International Legal Studies of the University of the Philippines Law Center hosted the Southeast Asian Regional Rounds (SEARR) of the 28th Stetson International Environmental Law Moot Court Competition (Stetson) from February 1-3, 2024 at the University of the Philippines (UP) College of Law, Diliman, Quezon City, Philippines.

Stetson, which has a focus on important global environmental challenges, is the most prestigious international environmental law moot court competition in the world. This year’s case involves Questions Relating to Mountain Gorillas and Impact Assessment (Aringuv v. Replomuté). A record-breaking 27 teams from Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia and the Philippines registered for this year’s competition.

The National University of Singapore (NUS) went up against the Singapore Management University (SMU) during the final round with NUS emerging as overall champion.  Mr. Li Minghan was awarded Best Oralist during the final round, while Ms. Ng Xin Yu was awarded Best Oralist during the preliminary rounds.  The University of St. La Salle Bacolod was awarded Best Overall Memorial, followed by the University of San Agustin and Ateneo de Naga University (AdNu). NUS, SMU, AdNu, UP and Trisakti University comprise the top five teams who will represent Southeast Asia in the International Moot Court Competition at Stetson Law, Gulfport, Florida on April 10-13, 2024.

UP has been hosting SEARR since 2014 and has consistently ensured its seamless execution, thus fostering an environment conducive to intellectual growth and collaboration among the brightest law students in Southeast Asia.
