UP Law Center Technology Law and Policy Program to Discuss Meta’s Oversight Board with Co-Chair Jamal Greene

On February 18, 2021, at 9:00 a.m., the UP Law Center Technology Law and Policy Program will hold a webinar entitled “Content Moderation and Human Rights on Facebook and Instagram: A Discussion with Meta’s Oversight Board.” The webinar will feature the Oversight Board’s Co-Chair Jamal Greene as the main speaker, with Professor Theodore Te as a reactor.

The Oversight Board began its work in 2020. It issues binding and independent decisions on content on Facebook and Instagram. One of the first cases reviewed by the Board looked at Meta’s decision to ban former US President Trump from its platforms following the US capitol riots in January 2021. The Board also issues policy advisory opinions on relevant content policies on Facebook and Instagram. The webinar will explore how the Board fulfils its mandate, its processes for reviewing cases, and how it applies international human rights standards to its work.

The webinar offers a chance to learn more about the Oversight Board and how it ensures respect for freedom of expression on Facebook and Instagram.
