UP Law wins 2017 Stetson Int’l Environmental Moot Court – Southeast Asian Regional Rounds

The team representing the University of the Philippines College of Law won the championship of the 2017 Southeast Asian Regional Rounds (SEARR) of the Stetson International Environmental Law Moot Court Competition, held from January 5 to 7, 2017 at the College of Law. First-time mooters Maria Patricia Valeña, Napoleon L. Gonzales III, Michelle Lao, and Nadaine P. Tongco prevailed over teams from Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia, and the Philippines, claiming the championship in the Final Round against Ateneo Law School. In addition, the team received the award for the Best Memorial, while Ms. Valena was awarded Best Oralist of the Oral Rounds.

The team will fly to Florida, USA in March to compete in the International Rounds. The most prestigious and competitive moot court competition focusing on international environmental law issues, the Stetson Moot this year centers on the issue of ocean fertilization and the conservation of narwhals, an near threatened marine mammal located in Arctic waters.
