UP IAJ, organizations, hold webinar series on the impact of COVID-19 in the judiciary

The University of the Philippines Institute for Administration of Justice (UP IAJ) together with co-convenors that comprise the Courts of Appointments Watch (CAW) shall hold the second installment of its three-part webinar series #EyesontheCourt: A Court Appointments Watch Webinar Series on the Impact of COVID19 on Access to Justice and the Judiciary’s Role in Shaping the New Normal. The session entitled “Challenges to Rendering Justice During and After the Pandemic” is scheduled on June 3, 2020 (Wednesday) from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. via Zoom.

Following up on its first episode that laid down the access to justice issues and how the pandemic has exacerbated the situation, CAW shall have the Honorable Marvic Mario Victor F. Leonen, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court as the resource speaker for the second #EyesontheCourt webinar.  This initiative by CAW aims to tackle the impact of COVID-19 on access to justice and the judiciary’s role in shaping the new normal.

#EyesontheCourt seeks to generate heightened engagement of the public on judicial issues and contribute to a judicial leadership that is grounded on issues and is able to connect to its constituency in order to address access to justice issues effectively.

The online seminar is organized by CAW composed of the Alternative Law Groups (ALG), University of the Philippines Institute for the Administration of Justice (UP IAJ), Philippine Association of Law Schools (PALS), Association of Law Students of the Philippines (ALSP), Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism (PCIJ), and Judicial Reform Initiative (JRI) with the support from The Asia Foundation (TAF) and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) of the Australian Government.
