The College of Law hosted its first Alumni Weekend on 11 April 2026 in the Law Complex. The event brought more than 200 alumni back to Malcolm Hall for a day of fellowship, reunions, and tributes.
After a simple opening program in the Malcolm Hall Lobby, the Class of 2001 conducted “Panata at Pagbabalik,” an art and history tour of Malcolm Hall. The building’s state rooms were opened to alumni, who recalled attending their classes and admissions interviews in spaces that now look different but remain familiar. Organizations also welcomed alumni to their renovated rooms, allowing students to interact with former members.
The Alumni Weekend also saw the UP Women Lawyers’ Circle (WILOCI) Induction take place in the Soliven Room shortly after noon. Inductees included recent graduates, as well as those who graduated years before but had yet to be sworn into the organization of all UP Law alumnae.
The event was capped by the book launch of Former Senate President Frank Drilon’s ‘69 memoirs, “Being Frank,” in the Malcolm Theater.
Throughout the day, street food was served at the Malcolm Hall ground floor, in addition to the luncheons hosted by the Class of 2001 and WILOCI.
The administration plans to make the Alumni Weekend an annual gathering in addition to the Homecoming hosted by the Silver Jubilarians. The College hopes to add academic panels, professional lectures, and similar activities in future Alumni Weekends to allow alumni not just to recall their law school days, but also to avail of the opportunities for lifelong learning presented by their membership in the UP Law community.
The 2026 Alumni Weekend was organized by a Steering Committee composed of various UP Law Complex offices and co-organized by the Silver Jubilarian Class of 2001. (By Paolo Emmanuel S. Tamase)
