Culminating Activity of the Code of Crimes Revision Committee and Transmittal of the Code of Crimes to Congress
The Code of Crimes Committee, with the UP Law Center – Institute of Government and Law Reform sitting as Committee Secretariat, celebrated the culmination of the Code of Crimes Project on January 25, 2023 at the Malcolm Hall Learning Commons from 10:00am to 12:00pm.
The Code of Crimes Revision Project began as early as 2014 in an effort to overhaul Act No. 3815, or Revised Penal Code of the Philippines, which was enacted as early as 1930. Many special penal laws have since been legislated, which the Committee strived to reconcile, update and incorporate into one comprehensive penal code.
Speaking on behalf of the Code of Crimes Committee, Presiding Justice Edilberto G. Sandoval provided a brief background to the Code of Crimes and shared some of its salient features. Among other noted guest speakers, Chair of the House of Representatives Committee on Justice Rep. Juliet Marie dL. Ferrer gave her remarks on the project, followed by the formal transmittal of the Code of Crimes to Congress for its consideration, marking the summit of the Code of Crimes Revision Project.
