JAKARTA, 11 January 2021 – The ASEAN Committee on Consumer Protection (ACCP) launched the Report of ASEAN Consumer Empowerment Index 2020 Pilot Project (ACEI 2020), as envisioned under the ASEAN Strategic Action Plan for Consumer Protection 2016-2025.

JAKARTA, 15 January 2021 – The ASEAN Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation (COSTI), the U.S. Government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and Underwriters Laboratories, a non-profit organisation dedicated to the discovery and application of scientific knowledge, launched the Underwriters Laboratories-ASEAN-U.S. Science Prize for Women 2021 call for application today.

The ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Retreat was held on 21 January 2021 via videoconference.

The Retreat was the first major meeting under Brunei Darussalam’s Chairmanship of ASEAN in 2021.
We had in-depth discussions on ASEAN’s priorities for the whole year and on ways to further strengthen the ASEAN Community and ASEAN Centrality as well as advance ASEAN’s comprehensive recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

They have exchanged views on recent regional and international developments and reaffirmed ASEAN Member States’ common values and principles, as enshrined in the ASEAN Charter and their shared commitment towards promoting peace, security, stability, and sustainable prosperity in the region.

JAKARTA, 24 January 2021 – The 11th Meeting of the Committee of the Whole (CoW) for the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) took place on 23 January via video conference. Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for AEC Aladdin D. Rillo chaired the meeting which focused on ASEAN’s economic priorities for the year as well as cross-sectoral and cross-pillar initiatives relating to the AEC.

SEOUL, 25 JANUARY 2021 – The ASEAN-Korea Youth Academic Webinar, held by the ASEAN-Korea Centre, is set to take place on 27 January at 2PM (KST). The awarding ceremony of the 2020 ASEAN-Korea Academic Essay Contest winners and presentation of the winning essays will be held during the event. The webinar will be live-streamed on the Centre’s Youtube channel.

JAKARTA, 26 January 2021 – ASEAN and Russia reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen their strategic partnership at the 17th ASEAN-Russia Senior Officials’ Meeting (ARSOM) held virtually, today.

The senior officials exchanged views on the developments in ASEAN and Russia, including responses to the COVID-19 pandemic and post-pandemic recovery. Both sides highlighted potential cooperation on research and development of the COVID-19 vaccine and medicine, exchange of experiences in addressing the pandemic, mitigating economic impact, and accelerating socio-economic recovery.

GENEVA/PHNOM PENH, 27 January 2021 – Today, the ASEAN Regional Mine Action Center (ARMAC) and the Geneva Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD) signed and launched the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Facilitating Cooperation and Planning of Joint Activities to Provide Assistance to the National Mine Action Authorities/Centres in ASEAN.

JAKARTA, 29 January 2021 – ASEAN and Chile reaffirmed their strong commitment to implement practical areas of cooperation to enhance their partnership at the Second ASEAN-Chile Development Partnership Committee (AC-DPC) Meeting, held today via videoconference.

The Practical Cooperation Areas for ASEAN-Chile Development Partnership 2021-2025 was adopted during this meeting. The document will serve as the guiding document for engagement and cooperation between ASEAN and Chile for the next five years. Both sides agreed to explore innovative ways to implement activities under the PCA during the COVID-19 pandemic.
