Professor Daway is a former Associate Dean of the UP College of Law where she also twice served as the College Secretary.  She completed her Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws degrees from the University of the Philippines.  Prof. Daway served as a Technical Assistant of Supreme Court Justice Felix V. Makasiar before joining her parents in their law practice and for sometime, the private sector.  She was appointed by the President of the Philippines in 1986 as a Labor Arbiter in the National Labor Relations Commission, where she served until 1994, the year when she joined the UP Law Center.  Since 1995, Prof. Daway has handled courses on Labor Standards Law, Labor Relations Law, the Law on Credit Transactions and Supervised Legal Research.  A regular resource person and speaker in the yearly Legal Forum for Filipino Migrant Workers in Japan, she has been a member of the Board of Directors and the Board Secretary of the Kapisanan ng Migranting Pilipino, Inc. since 2002.  She holds the distinction of being the first woman to be elected President of the Asian Society of Labour Law (AsianSLL), an international organization of labor law practitioners and academics from Asian countries, during the 2010 Manila Biennial Conference Board of Governors’ Meeting for a term of two years.  She continues to serve in AsianSLL as a member of the Board of Governors and as a founding member.

She is the former Director of the Institute for the Administration of Justice (IAJ) of the UP Law Center.  IAJ is the leading provider of continuing legal education to all members of the legal profession in the country today.

Prof. Daway delivered her Atty. Claudio Capulong-Amador professorial chair lecture which focussed on today’s sunshine industry workers entitled “The Rights, Status and Prospects of BPO Workers: Brightening the Workers’ Future in the Sunshine Industry”.

Prof. Daway has presented papers in both international and national forum on Labor Laws.  Her articles on workers’ rights have been published here and abroad.
