5-PEAT WIN: UP LAW BAGS ITS 5TH CONSECUTIVE CHAMPIONSHIP IN THE NATIONAL ROUNDS OF THE JESSUP MOOT COURT COMPETITION
The University of the Philippines College of Law bags the championship of the National Rounds of the 2022 Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition for the fifth consecutive year!
The Jessup Moot Court Competition is the biggest and most prestigious moot court competition in the world. This year, the Philippine National Rounds were sponsored by Divina Law and were held virtually from February 26 – March 1 2022, with teams participating from all over the country.
The UP Law Jessup team is composed of Aloysius Francis Bresnan (IV-D), Berenice Joanna Dela Cruz (IV-E), Czar Matthew Gerard Dayday (IV-A), and Adrian Gabriel Padilla (III-B).
The team emerged as the top ranked team in the rankings after beating all of their opponents in their Preliminary Rounds. They then bagged all of the special awards in the Competition. Their written submissions won the Best Applicant Memorial Award, Best Respondent Memorial Award, and the Best Overall Memorial Award.
The members of the team also won individual awards for their excellent performance in the preliminary rounds. Ms. Berenice Dela Cruz won the Best Oralist award, while Mr. Aloysius Bresnan, Mr. Matthew Dayday, and Mr. Adrian Padilla were awarded the 2nd, 4th, and 10th Best Oralist Awards respectively. Mr. Aloysius Bresnan was also awarded the Best Oralist of the Championship round.
Since 2018, UP Law has represented the Philippines in the International Rounds of the Philip C. Jessup Moot Court Competition. This year, UP Law will again be competing in the International Rounds, which will be held virtually.
Professor Patricia Valeña and Professor Carlo Borromeo mentored the team as coaches with Professor Rommel Casis as faculty adviser. The team was also assisted by the UP Law Center Information and Publications Division during the competition.
