Professor Uy finished both his degree in Philosophy and study of law in the University of the Philippines. During his stay at the UP College of Law, he was a member of the editorial board of the Philippine Law Journal.

Professor Danny Uy developed the first academic course on the Law on Corporate Finance and on Foreign Investment Law in the country. In the 2009 bar examinations, he served as bar examiner for commercial law. He taught also, aside from the UP College of Law, at the Arellano Law School from 1995 to 2010.

From 2006 to 2007, Professor Uy served as Undersecretary of the Office of the Chief Presidential Legal Counsel. He was also detailed to the Office of the Solicitor General.

Professor Uy has also the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Philippine Air Force, and has been recently appointed as the UP Vice President for Legal Affairs.
