Robust academic ties between Japan and the Philippines took center stage at the KyuDai Now Manila forum, held on 11 February 2026 at the Malcolm Theater, Malcolm Hall, UP Diliman, Quezon City, from 1:30 to 5.30 PM, with the participation of senior institutional leaders from both countries–including Ambassador Kazuya Endo of Japan, Kyushu University Vice President Shuji Shimizu, University of the Philippines Vice President for Research and Innovation Dr. Joel Joseph S. Marciano, Jr., and UP College of Law Dean Gwen Grecia-De Vera–underscoring a sustained commitment to bilateral scholarly and research collaboration.
KyuDai Now Manila is part of a multi-country forum series showcasing the research initiatives and global engagements of Kyushu University faculty and alumni. Organized by Kyushu University, with the support of the UP College of Law, the UP Law Center Institute of International Legal Studies’ International Financial Law and Regulation Program, the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines, the Kyushu University Alumni Association of the Philippines, and the Manila Kyushu University Alumni, the symposium featured presentations on the latest research in design, engineering, agriculture, and medicine, as well as professional and personal trajectories shaped by legal studies in Japan. It also highlighted study and research opportunities in Japanese universities, particularly at Kyushu University.
The forum was held in recognition of the 70th Anniversary of the Philippines-Japan Friendship celebrations of the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines, underscoring the convergence of sustained diplomatic cooperation and deepening institutional partnerships while advancing the academic exchange between the two countries.
