Disqualifying Acts During the LAE Proper

LAE 2025 ANNOUNCEMENT | DISQUALIFYING ACTS DURING THE LAE PROPER

Applicants are reminded that the following actions are NOT ALLOWED during the LAE and will result in disqualification of the applicant:

  • Going to the bathroom or otherwise going out of the camera frame during the exam;
  • Closing the SMOWL Computer Monitoring Application during the exam;
  • Asking someone to assist you in answering any of the exam questions;
  • Researching for any answer or part of an answer in books, notebooks, or any other source;
  • Using any form of scratch paper;
  • Using any electronic device other than the one you will use to take the exam (computer, camera, microphone). Prohibited devices include but are not limited to: earphones, headsets, extra monitor screens, cellphones, tablets, smart watches, cameras (other than the ones required by SMOWL Computer Monitoring) and video capture devices;
  • Wearing of hoodies, hats, masks, or other accessories that may cover your face or ears; and
  • Reading the exam questions and answers aloud during the exam.

The above acts will be flagged by SMOWL Computer Monitoring during the Technical Assessment and feedback will be sent to the applicants of flagged behavior, if any.

Applicants are also advised to perform the following acts before taking the LAE and the Technical Assessment:

  • Make sure you have access to the LAE 2025 Moodle Course. You will be only given access to this course if and only if you are able to successfully complete the Technical Assessment;
  • Close all unnecessary apps (SMOWL CM monitors running applications on your computer);
  • SMOWL Computer Monitoring keeps track of notifications that pop up on your screen as well as your interactions with them. To avoid giving cause for suspicion and disqualification, disable notifications or, better yet, uninstall applications that may send notifications during the exam; and
  • Unplug extra monitors as these may be flagged as suspicious. Make sure to have just one monitor working for the exam.

Applicants are strongly advised to read the 2025 Law Aptitude Exam Test-Taker’s Manual for the instructions on how to register for the online LAE, the steps required to prepare their devices for the exam, and the disqualifying acts.
