UP College of Law Associate Professor Rommel J. Casis Presents His Paper at the 10th Asian Society of International Law Biennial Conference
The UP College of Law warmly commends Associate Professor Rommel J. Casis, for presenting his paper during the first plenary session of the 10th Asian Society of International Law Biennial Conference, hosted by the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam on 9 to 10 October 2025, at the Sheraton Hanoi Hotel.
Associate Professor Casis presented his paper entitled “ILC’s Codification Works as Portals for Asian Influence on International Law,” which focused on Asia’s Role in the Development of International Law. His paper explores how the progressive development and codification work of the International Law Commission (ILC) have opened opportunities for Asian influence in the evolution of international law. The paper identifies key draft conclusions that may serve as entry points for Asian states to shape international legal norms, and examines how proponents of Asian legal traditions, as well as state and non-state actors, can effectively engage with these opportunities. The paper emphasizes the crucial role of academics and policymakers in integrating Asian legal traditions into the foundations of international law in the 21st century and beyond.
Associate Professor Casis also serves as the Director of the Institute of International Legal Studies, one of the five institutes under the UP Law Center, which undertakes the mandate of advancing research and providing extension services in various areas of international law.
