The Philippine Society of International Law (PSIL), in partnership with the Office of Legal Affairs of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA-OLA) and the University of the Philippines (U.P.) Law Center, will hold its first National Conference at the U.P. College of Law on Friday, September 7, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:15 p.m.

With the theme: “The Philippines and the Dynamics of International Law in a Time of Transition”, the Conference will draw paper presentors from Australia, Czech Republic, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and various regions of the Philippines on a wide variety of topics in international law.

Topics range from human rights, territorial disputes and regional maritime security, international trade law, armed conflict, terrorism, to environmental law and sustainable development, ASEAN law, enforcement of foreign judgment, and Philippine reception of international law.

Judge Raul C. Pangalangan of the International Criminal Court – a member of PSIL’s advisory council – will deliver the keynote address at the Conference, while Presidential Spokesperson Secretary Harry Roque will deliver remarks as the immediate past president of PSIL. Professor Elizabeth Aguiling-Pangalangan of the U.P. College of Law and Assistant Secretary J. UP College of Law Dean Fides Cordero-Tan will welcome the participants to the Conference.

PSIL was founded in 1961 by legal luminaries led by the late Justice Florentino Feliciano, and is the Philippine chapter of the Asian Society of International Law (AsianSIL), said to be the region’s most prestigious professional and academic organization for international law.

The National Conference – co-organized with the Integrated Bar of the Philippines – is PSIL’s first major undertaking since its revival in 2014 and is preparatory to the AsianSIL 7th Biennial Conference, which will be hosted by PSIL, the DFA and U.P. Law Center/College of Law in Manila on August 22-24, 2019.
