Fifth UP Law Centennial Textbook Released
This work by Owen J. Lynch, is the single most important work on Philippine legal history. While the focus of the manuscript is on the emergence of Philippine land law, its thesis, that Spanish and US policies on land implicated state formation which continues to influence constitutional conversations about the nature of the Philippine State and the relationship between identity and community, brings us through a complete adventure about the history of the islands. Beyond providing us with a wonderful historical narrative grounded on extensive research on colonial legal policies, Professor Lynch gives us powerful and controversial extrapolations that will surely provide historians a lot to debate about.
