Event Announcement: Islam and Democracy Forum on "Autonomy and Federalism" on June 15, 2017
The Philippine Center for Islam and Democracy (PCID)-- in cooperation with the Institute for the Administration of Justice (IAJ) of the UP Law Center, and the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung--would like to invite the public to the latest Islam and Democracy Forum (IDF) with the theme: “AUTONOMY AND FEDERALISM”, which will be held at the Malcolm Theatre, College of Law, University of the Philippines, Quezon City. The forum is set on June 15, 2017 (Thursday), from 9:00AM to 12:00PM.
Former Prime Minister Cesar E. A. Virata and Former Senator Aquilino “Nene” Pimentel will be leading the discussions. With the Former P.M. Virata’s experience as the first and only Prime Minister of the Philippines, and Senator Pimentel’s authorship of the act creating the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao and more than 50 years of advocating federalism, attendees should expect a fruitful discussion on the applicability of federalism in the Philippines.
The IDF aims to open dialogues with leaders in politics, the business sector, civil society, and the media to elicit varying perspectives on autonomy, governance and federalism as a means to promote sustainable development and peace. The discourse will be enriched by a review of both the Philippine parliamentary experience and evolution of local government.
